When God describes His love for His people, He often uses the imagery of parenting:
“Can a woman forget her nursing child
And have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget, but I will not forget you
Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands…” (Isaiah 49:15-16 NASB).
There is no more precious and touching image than that of a mother and her child. Yet the culture is working actively against this most basic relationship.
For example, an increasing number of lawsuits are being filed to combat measures that would protect innocent preborn babies. Some news outlets are complaining that using the world “babies” in such cases unduly “personifies the fetus into something it's not.”[1] The American Medical Association (AMA) is even suing the state of North Dakota for directing medical professionals to talk about the implications of aborting a “living human being,” which the AMA claims is "false, misleading, and non-medical.”[2]
How quickly the so-called “educated” forget that each of us are endowed with the breath of life (Genesis 2:7) and made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26):
“Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them” (Psalm 139:16 NASB).
The original pro-abortion ruling Roe v. Wade in 1973 has been expanded into justification for full-fledged infanticide[3] as late-term abortion advocates now openly crusade for killing unwanted babies after birth.[4]
Thankfully, the current administration is pushing back. As the federal Department of Health & Human Services affirmed:
“Promoting the dignity of human life from conception to natural death is one of the very top priorities of President Trump’s administration.”[5]
The President has taken numerous actions to protect the bond between a mother and her unborn child, but many in America continue to propagandize women’s rights in a way that negates the inalienable rights of the unborn child. But God has not forgotten even “the least of these” (Matthew 25:45), nor should we.
As we witness powerful forces at work against the sanctity of life, we should match the fervor of their approach and we should champion every person’s right to life, no matter their age or stage of development. We should act to preserve our posterity—or in the words of Thomas Paine:
“If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace.”[6]
